Unit Building....adding Command sections to my Old Brets

As Mentioned in my previous Post about building new units for my classic Brettonian army I mentioned that I had several units without command sections.  This is due to the fact that the, somewhat obscure, range of Brettonian figures that was released during the 3rd edition didn't contain any command sections.  This has forced me to look outside the Citadel catalog for some suitable models.

I've been looking at some of the sculpts sold by Black Tree Designs and when they had their summer sale I took the plunge and ordered a couple of blisters that I thought would work nicely.  I purchased figures from their fantasy range Men of  Averaign (all of which make great Bret alternatives) as well as some from their Hundred Years War Range.  Lets take a look at how they worked out.

The Rest of Averland...Part VI...the end....finally

In my last post I alluded to another commission that I was finally able to finish up...lets take a look...

This one was a really joy to work on because it included so many really fantastic classic figures.  I am of course speaking of the group of Averlander's that I have been working on for thebinman for far too long.

I've discussed this group in some detail elsewhere so lets just get into the pictures.

First off is the group that has been completed the longest...a wonderful combination of races that makes for a very evocative little group.

...and a Special Surprise!!!! I mean it this time!

So in the post I did last week on the fantastic Ewal Dvergar Xbows that have been recently released by Clam I hinted at something special in the title...

...and then forgot to mention that "something" in the post!  DOH!!!

Sorry about that.

A Touch of the Chaos...

So...if you follow the blog you will have noticed a rather dramatic drop off in posts about painting.  There is a very obvious reason for this...my painting mojo has left the building!  I have  been extremely short on time this summer and when I have had a few minutes I just can't bring myself to paint for some reason.

...that is until this last week!  After seeing all the wonderful pictures from the BOYL event I've started to get really excited about the Oldahmmer in the NewWorld event coming up this fall.  So I've been back in the saddle for a few nights and it feels good to be waving the hairy wand again!

The first thing on my plate was to finish up a couple of commissions ...pieces of which you have seen pop up on this blog and in various forum over the last year or more.  Well...I've completed two of them and managed to get some decent pictures before shipping them back to their rightful owners.

The first commission was a group of five chaos figures for my most patient client Hashut's Lil Helper (HlH).  You may remember that I have been painting a series of Chaos warriors for HlH that match his already painted MM90s.  Well in the last batch of figures he included 5 additional figures for me to paint as well.  These included one more Chaos Warrior and four Citadel chaos dwarfs.

Lets take a look at the group first and then each of them individually.

Ewal Dvergar Crossbows ....and a Special Surprise

One of the great things about the current state of the "Oldhammer" Community are the number of small companies...and in some cases individuals...who are designing and producing figures that have that "Old School" vibe.  One of my absolute favorite ranges of this sort are the Ewal Dvergar being produced by Clam.  The Ewal Dvergar range takes its inspiration from the classic Chaos Dwarf models produced by citadel and Marauder during the heady days of the 2nd and 3rd editions of Warhammer Fantasy Battles.  Clam's figures allow a general to build a sizable force of evil stunties without having to collect innumerable duplicate copies of very hard to find and expensive classic figures

I've got the "not at BoYL" blues! ...Let's build units! Part III

...hey...this unit thing is kinda of addictive!  That now that I've started I can't seem to stop!

After the success with the wood elves I dove into my Brettonian Box and went to work on the infantry.

The first unit I worked on here were the archers.  Right now I have a unit of 18 archers...but no command section.  I love the brets from the third edition but they were not really a complete range as they lacked any command section sculpts...?!?  Anyway...here they are.

I've got the "not at BoYL" blues! ...Let's build units! Part II

Ok... So the gobos weren't quite enough...

...after them I dug into my wood elf box.  As some of you know I was asking for assistance in picking a leader for one my units of wood elf spearmen on Facebook the other day.  Long story short....I've settled on the guy holding the giant sword for a leader...so let's look at that unit first.

I've got the "not at BoYL" blues! ...Let's build units!

So....as I sit here wishing I was in the UK gaming with my boys...I've decided to build a number of units to satiate my need for Oldhammer!

So here is a unit I've been working on for quite awhile.....I know many people are not huge fans of 4th ed figures...but one range I've always appreciated are the excellent goblin wolf riders...they are full of character and there are 16 unique sculpts so there is plenty of variety.
